Script Night July 4, 2010 - INDEPENDENCE DAY

#Scriptchat TOPIC: Script Night – INDEPENDENCE DAY  (download script HERE)

The American holiday brought more than tequila and fireworks… we brought aliens!  A few lingering Twitter technical difficulties, but all in all, the stream stayed steady.  Read on to see what the EURO and USA chatters thought of the action packed script.

EURO moderator: Mina Zaher, @DreamsGrafter
USA moderator: Jeanne Veillette Bowerman, @jeannevb

EURO chat:

7:00 pm                DreamsGrafter:                #SCRIPTCHAT  O'CLOCK ... Time to discuss Independence Day, the screenplay!
7:01 pm             DreamsGrafter:             Does anyone have any initial thoughts on the script? #scriptchat
7:01 pm             lizziside:             Checking in. Looking forward to reading your opinions about it. #scriptchat
7:01 pm             lupiilu:             Good evening all, good to see it's working this week. #scriptchat
7:01 pm             DreamsGrafter:             What struck me the most was for an action film script, the descriptions were anything but dense. #scriptchat
7:01 pm             Jonathan_Peace:             *rushing in, rearranging self* Hi all. Happy ID4! #scriptchat
7:02 pm             DreamsGrafter:             Also, @Bang2Write flagged up a good point earlier in the week about Dual Protagonists in the film. #scriptchat
7:03 pm             AllInky:             The description in the action sequences is almost all one-sentence-to-the-line. #scriptchat
7:03 pm             lizziside:             @DreamsGrafter I've noticed that they were the perfect example of what @Bang2write advised not to do #scriptchat
7:03 pm             DreamsGrafter:             @lupiilu @lizziside @Jonathan_Peace ... Hi guys! ... :) It's so cool to be back on #scriptchat .... Really missed being on here.
7:04 pm             DreamsGrafter:             @lupiilu @lizziside @Jonathan_Peace Did you guy enjoy the script? #scriptchat
7:04 pm             Jonathan_Peace:             I thought the action was just right. Short. Punchy. To the point. just how Action should be. Draws you in. Keeps you reading. #scriptchat
7:04 pm             lupiilu:             @DreamsGrafter hi hun, how was your time away??? #scriptchat
7:04 pm             lizziside:             @DreamsGrafter cool to have you back :-) #scriptchat
7:05 pm             DreamsGrafter:             Cld you elaborate? RT @lizziside: I've noticed that they were the perfect example of what @Bang2write advised not to do #scriptchat
7:05 pm             Jonathan_Peace:             Welcome back @DreamsGrafter *no postcard?* #scriptchat
7:06 pm             lupiilu:             @DreamsGrafter @lizziside I was about to ask that. lol #scriptchat
7:06 pm             lizziside:             @DreamsGrafter They had the "we see..." we hear..." form and camera directions #scriptchat
7:08 pm             dizzydentfilms:             @lizziside That's bcuz it was written back in the early 90s. Formatting has changed quite a bit. #scriptchat
7:08 pm             DreamsGrafter:             So true - and capitals in the action too. RT @lizziside They had the "we see..." we hear..." form and camera directions #scriptchat
7:09 pm             lizziside:             RT @dizzydentfilms: @lizziside Thats bcuz it was written back in the early 90s. Formatting has changed quite a bit. #scriptchat
7:09 pm             twatterer:             @lizziside the script was written by the director. All formatting 'rules' do not apply as he can do what he damn well pleases :) #scriptchat
7:09 pm             DreamsGrafter:             RT @dizzydentfilms: @lizziside That's bcuz it was written back in the early 90s. Formatting has changed quite a bit. #scriptchat
7:09 pm             Jonathan_Peace:             I was going to comment on we see/hear... thought about it... self edited. Changed my mind. Pray continue... #scriptchat
7:09 pm             thewritertype:             #scriptchat ID script is exciting to read even if you've seen the film. Well written. All the strands come together.
7:10 pm             AllInky:             I kept wishing I had scissors - to put the scenes in the new order. The film's people-first-action-second layout worked. #scriptchat
7:11 pm             Jonathan_Peace:             I found after reading it I so wanted to watch it again. As @thewritertype says it was very exciting. #scriptchat
7:11 pm             DreamsGrafter:             RT @twatterer: @lizziside the script was written by the director. All formatting 'rules' do not apply as he can do what he damn well pleases :) #scriptchat
7:11 pm             DreamsGrafter:             @twatterer @lizziside I was thinking if tht was the case of if the script was at a late stage of development w/ dir. coming in. #scriptchat
7:12 pm             lupiilu:             @Jonathan_Peace funny, I found the same thing, it's as fun to read as it is to watch. #scriptchat
7:12 pm             DreamsGrafter:             @Jonathan_Peace @thewritertype I agree. Am not really a fan of the film but really enjoyed the script. #scriptchat
7:13 pm             DreamsGrafter:             "One small step for man, one large pile of garbage for moon   kind." What a great initial image. #scriptchat
7:13 pm             Jonathan_Peace:             @DreamsGrafter I love the film. always have. I remember seeing it on opening weekend along with Twister. Pure entertainment #scriptchat
7:14 pm             lizziside:             What's funny about it? RT @lupiilu: @Jonathan_Peace funny, I found the same thing, its as fun to read as it is to watch. #scriptchat
7:15 pm             DreamsGrafter:             Also the concise action description helps maintain the pace of an action film. It doesn't get bogged down in detail. #scriptchat
7:15 pm             Jonathan_Peace:             I mean let's not beat about the bush. This is NOT some great thinking piece of cinema. It's pure popcorn fodder. #scriptchat
7:16 pm             AllInky:             IMHO, the humour seems more pronounced in the film than it is on the page. The script "feels" a little darker? #scriptchat
7:16 pm             Jonathan_Peace:             But that is surely what cinema should be about. entertainment. Some of the dialogue is pure B-movie: "My god. The sky's on fire" #scriptchat
7:17 pm             thewritertype:             #scriptchat Preposterous plot coincidences in ID but you accept because they work within the logic of the fantasy
7:17 pm             Jonathan_Peace:             RT @DreamsGrafter: Also the concise action description maintains the pace of an action film. Not bogged down in detail. #scriptchat
7:18 pm             DreamsGrafter:             Structure? A1TP: alien ships make their presence known. Mid: Aliens shoot down pilots. A2TP: They announce end of the world. #scriptchat
7:19 pm             lupiilu:             @AllInky I think the movie works better for the humour though, it would not have been as believable had it been darker. #scriptchat
7:19 pm             twatterer:             @DreamsGrafter writer&director have proven form that dictates they know what they're doing storywise = format pretty irrelevant #scriptchat
7:19 pm             dizzydentfilms:             @Jonathan_Peace Dngerous popcrn fodder.Americans idolize this movie. 1990s nationalism that led 2 the fascism of the Bush years. #scriptchat
7:19 pm             Jonathan_Peace:             And a computer that can hack into Alien technology in seconds??? Scriptchat wouldn't run last week!!! #scriptchat
7:19 pm             DreamsGrafter:             Interesting how President's and David's functions become almost redundant in Act 3 ... hence Steve. #scriptchat
7:20 pm             CORKY242:             @DreamsGrafter Good evening Mina!So welcome.Enjoy the #scriptchat ;o).Weekend was good,hope yours too.
7:20 pm             lupiilu:             @Jonathan_Peace pmsl, yeah the alien hack always annoyed me. I actually read the book to see if it made more sense! #scriptchat
7:20 pm             Jonathan_Peace:             @dizzydentfilms I don't think you can lay all that on the door of ID4 LOL #scriptchat
7:20 pm             AllInky:             @DreamsGrafter I would say that's it. The are announcing end of the world on page 85 though... #scriptchat
7:21 pm             DreamsGrafter:             @twatterer Totally makes sense. :) #scriptchat
7:22 pm             thetissuetalk:             so did it make more sense? curious. @lupiilu I actually read the book to see if it made more sense! #scriptchat
7:22 pm             DreamsGrafter:             @lizziside They reveal themselves to be the common enemy on page 53 ... too late in the script to be A1TP ... #scriptchat
7:22 pm             booksbelow:             The one thing that disconnected me was the president flying with the other pilots at the end, more fantastic than rest of movie! #scriptchat
7:23 pm             lizziside:             RT@dizzydentfilms Dngerous popcrn fodder.Americans idolize this movie. 1990s nationalism that led 2 the fascism of the Bush yrs. #scriptchat
7:23 pm             dizzydentfilms:             @Jonathan_Peace Film has been used 2 promote State propaganda since it was invented. c'mon. Y is E running an all day marathon? #scriptchat
7:23 pm             Jonathan_Peace:             @lupiilu The book was a novellisation of the screenplay so probably wouldn't be much different. #scriptchat
7:23 pm             DreamsGrafter:             @lizziside When the alien ships appear this is the point when the story takes a turn & sets up the active q for rest of film. #scriptchat
7:24 pm             dizzydentfilms:             @booksbelow Hello? Dubya: Mission Accomplished! #scriptchat Where do u think he got the idea?
7:24 pm             lizziside:             Films are a powerful medium RT @Jonathan_Peace: @dizzydentfilms I dont think you can lay all that on the door of ID4 LOL #scriptchat
7:24 pm             AllInky:             Things in threes in film, always interesting. Steve/President/Russell - interesting threesome. #scriptchat
7:24 pm             DreamsGrafter:             @lizziside The active question could be: Will the human race overcome these invaders? - for example. #scriptchat
7:25 pm             lupiilu:             @thetissuetalk oooo, few years ago now, I remember it did, but barely. #scriptchat
7:25 pm             DreamsGrafter:             I just threw that active question in there. Can anyone identify act two's active question that drives the plot? #scriptchat
7:25 pm             dizzydentfilms:             Anyway, I hated the movie and its idiocy. I shouldn't be here. I'm gonna go eat lunch. #scriptchat
7:26 pm             lizziside:             @DreamsGrafter A common enemy is a unifying factor....the creator of patriotism and therefore the action that follows #scriptchat
7:26 pm             DreamsGrafter:             All is Lost moment. RT @AllInky: @DreamsGrafter I would say that's it. The are announcing end of the world on page 85 though... #scriptchat
7:26 pm             AllInky:             This was a real blockbuster, with significant sequel potential. What's prevented a IDII for so long? #scriptchat
7:26 pm             lizziside:             Me too RT @dizzydentfilms: Anyway, I hated the movie and its idiocy. #scriptchat
7:27 pm             DreamsGrafter:             @lizziside But in plot terms ... where is the antagonist initially identified? #scriptchat
7:27 pm             Jonathan_Peace:             @DreamsGrafter I'd say the question is a basic need to survive. Act 1 is wonder, Act 2 is survive Act 3 is fight back. #scriptchat
7:27 pm             filmutopia:             #scriptchat So, I've driven like a maniac to get back for this... so, have we discussed the importance of set pieces in action movies, yet?
7:28 pm             DreamsGrafter:             @filmutopia Hey Clive! Welcome. :) #scriptchat
7:28 pm             booksbelow:             Aliens all dead! RT @AllInky: This was a real blockbuster, w/ significant sequel potential. Whats prevented a IDII for so long? #scriptchat
7:28 pm             lupiilu:             @AllInky dunno, remember Emmerich had the first scene all planned, then nothing. Now been announced for 2013 #scriptchat
7:28 pm             DreamsGrafter:             @Jonathan_Peace Cld you phrase that into a question? So that act 3 acts as the answer? #scriptchat
7:28 pm             booksbelow:             @filmutopia More about how this movie inspired the fascist Bush years :-) #scriptchat
7:29 pm             Jonathan_Peace:             @filmutopia Great post today Clive. #scriptchat
7:29 pm             thewritertype:             @dizzydentfilms #scriptchat Richard Curtis films are more insidious propaganda than a movie like Independence Day.
7:29 pm             kimdkus:             @thewritertype #scriptchat Dude!! That is really cool!!
7:29 pm             filmutopia:             @Jonathan_Peace thanks #scriptchat - I blog therefore I am! hahahhahahaha
7:29 pm             AllInky:             @booksbelow Really? Not what I took from the prez's speech. This was one Momma ship, of many? #scriptchat
7:29 pm             DreamsGrafter:             Whoops, I'm feeling like my ex-screenwriting tutor right now. Come on, let's pull this script apart! Ha! #scriptchat
7:30 pm             dizzydentfilms:             @lizziside I'm gonna go do something really patriotic now. Go check out sale at Loehman's. 25% off yellow stickers! USA USA USA! #scriptchat
7:30 pm             filmutopia:             @booksbelow Oh, dear! #scriptchat
7:30 pm             lizziside:             @DreamsGrafter There's more in the sub-layer that should draw the attention #scriptchat
7:30 pm             DreamsGrafter:             No we haven't. Lead the way. :) RT @filmutopia #scriptchat ... so, have we discussed the importance of set pieces in action movies, yet?
7:31 pm             booksbelow:             @AllInky Correct, a never ending supply of aliens for Will Smith to battle! #scriptchat
7:31 pm             lizziside:             The way I read it, the alines are the protagonist RT @DreamsGrafter: where is the antagonist initially identified? #scriptchat
7:32 pm             DreamsGrafter:             RT @filmutopia: #scriptchat It's just that action movies are largely about framing the structure around eight large set pieces. I figure on 2 per act.
7:32 pm             eJamesDevereaux:             @thewritertype Like the opening of Love Actually #scriptchat
7:32 pm             filmutopia:             #scriptchat the trick to writing set pieces is mastery of INTERCUT and also sub-sluglines to show where the multiple lines of action happen
7:32 pm             lizziside:             :D RT @dizzydentfilms: Im gonna go do something really patriotic now. Go check out sale at Loehmans. 25% off yellow stickers! #scriptchat
7:33 pm             DreamsGrafter:             @filmutopia Sorry to be ignorrant but re set pieces you mean settings? Like the alien ships in the sky at end of act 1? #scriptchat
7:33 pm             DreamsGrafter:             RT @filmutopia: #scriptchat the trick to writing set pieces is mastery of INTERCUT and also sub-sluglines to show where the multiple lines of action happen
7:34 pm             lizziside:             so, the antagonist is human kind RT @DreamsGrafter: where is the antagonist initially identified? #scriptchat
7:34 pm             twatterer:             @dizzydentfilms ID is jam-packed with political dick waving, depicting US military & even president as saviours of mankind #scriptchat
7:34 pm             filmutopia:             @DreamsGrafter #scriptchat An example of a set piece, would be the initial battle between the aliens and the fighters
7:34 pm             Jonathan_Peace:             @filmutopia I'm just learning about using sub-sluglines. In previous drafts the scenes got so cluttered till I learnt about them #scriptchat
7:34 pm             DreamsGrafter:             @filmutopia Am starting to get it ... Please keep going. #scriptchat
7:34 pm             booksbelow:             I think Russell (Randy Quaid) was the real protagonist, got to fight and conquer his inner demons in real life #scriptchat
7:35 pm             filmutopia:             #scriptchat The reason I mention set pieces is because you'd be amazed how few screenwriters can write an action sequence.
7:35 pm             DreamsGrafter:             @lizziside Antagonist is anything in opposition: character, weather (like in Twister) and in ID, aliens ... #scriptchat
7:36 pm             DreamsGrafter:             @lizziside Though in ID each character also has other antagonists. #scriptchat
7:36 pm             dizzydentfilms:             @twatterer Which is exactly the rhetoric Bush used to get other countries to support him with the invasion of Iraq. #scriptchat
7:37 pm             filmutopia:             #scriptchat A sub-slug is where you identify a location within a scene ie :BY THE TABLE...... : BEHIND THE MERCEDES - it's not a new scene
7:37 pm             DreamsGrafter:             Got it! RT @filmutopia @DreamsGrafter #scriptchat An example of a set piece, wld be the initial battle between the aliens and the fighters
7:37 pm             DreamsGrafter:             @filmutopia Thanks Clive - and I also enjoyed your blog post today. #scriptchat
7:38 pm             DreamsGrafter:             RT @filmutopia: #scriptchat The reason I mention set pieces is because you'd be amazed how few screenwriters can write an action sequence.
7:38 pm             DreamsGrafter:             RT @filmutopia: #scriptchat A sub-slug is where you identify a location within a scene ie :BY THE TABLE...... : BEHIND THE MERCEDES - it's not a new scene
7:38 pm             filmutopia:             @DreamsGrafter #scriptchat Independence Day has quite sophisticated set pieces, which weave multiple storylines. Easy to underestimate it.
7:38 pm             booksbelow:             @filmutopia I can see where sub-slugs would be important in action scenes where events are moving around within larger set piece #scriptchat
7:38 pm             lizziside:             All the chtrs are merely reacting to the aliens doing RT @DreamsGrafter: in ID each character also has other antagonists. #scriptchat
7:39 pm             DreamsGrafter:             @Jonathan_Peace I was thinking this script would be useful for you. Got the vibe you were into action sequences. ;) #scriptchat
7:39 pm             lupiilu:             @DreamsGrafter set pieces are the scenes you'd use for the trailers, they're the ones that hold most action/excitement. #scriptchat
7:40 pm             Jonathan_Peace:             @DreamsGrafter Yeah. It was writing the action in my Bubble-Butt script (blatant plug) where I learnt sub-sluglines. #scriptchat
7:40 pm             filmutopia:             @BFrank_ #scriptchat - yes, Action movies are about set pieces and the hero's journey broken into four acts - and nothing else.
7:40 pm             twatterer:             @dizzydentfilms yep, spot on, using sales pitch of 'his troops' being bigger/better/braver & of higher morality than the ENEMY #scriptchat
7:41 pm             filmutopia:             @booksbelow #scriptchat - it's almost impossible to write coherent set pieces without sub-slugs
7:41 pm             lizziside:             create a common enemy and u'll rule the world RT @dizzydentfilms: @twatterer the rhetoric Bush used to get other countries -- #scriptchat
7:41 pm             Jonathan_Peace:             @DreamsGrafter Very punchy. Very short description. The script is virtually all action. #scriptchat
7:42 pm             AllInky:             Characters have issues, flaws, but separate antagonists? Steve/commitment, David/lack of commitment, etc. #scriptchat
7:42 pm             thetissuetalk:             RT @filmutopia Action movies are about set pieces and the hero's journey broken into four acts - and nothing else. #scriptchat
7:43 pm             booksbelow:             I do admire the handling of all the multiple story lines, but thought the President's was weak. #scriptchat
7:43 pm             jazzchantoozie:             @twatterer @dizzydentfilms You're right; US acts like the action hero of its own movie. #scriptchat
7:43 pm             DreamsGrafter:             @lizziside David's other antagonist is his father; the President's other antagonist is the Press for example. #scriptchat
7:45 pm             DreamsGrafter:             Thx Lucy! RT @lupiilu: set pieces are the scenes you'd use for the trailers, they're the ones that hold most action/excitement. #scriptchat
7:46 pm             DreamsGrafter:             RT @Jonathan_Peace: @DreamsGrafter Very punchy. Very short description. The script is virtually all action. #scriptchat
7:46 pm             BFrank_:             @filmutopia And nothing wrong with that. What is the fourth act? Is that when I feel the film should be over already? :) #scriptchat
7:46 pm             AllInky:             I thought of the Prez's "conflict" more of a "man in the wrong job" than in a fight with the press? #scriptchat
7:46 pm             DreamsGrafter:             @booksbelow Which story did you prefer and why? #scriptchat
7:46 pm             thewritertype:             #scriptchat. When I saw Independence Day I just thought it was a comedy with a very big budget.
7:48 pm             KarenSperling:             "SET-PIECE-A scene or sequence with escalated stakes + production values." http://tinyurl.com/2fnrjx6 #scriptchat
7:48 pm             Jonathan_Peace:             RT @lupiilu: @DreamsGrafter set pieces are scenes you use for the trailers, theyre the ones that hold most action/excitement. #scriptchat
7:48 pm             booksbelow:             @DreamsGrafter I seriously thought Russell's was the most interesting. Someone fighting fantasies that suddenly become real. #scriptchat
7:49 pm             lizziside:             @DreamsGrafter I find it difficult to discern structural pieces from the pernicious message it sends out as a whole #scriptchat
7:50 pm             Jonathan_Peace:             @booksbelow Maybe Russell HAD been taking aboard a ship and thanks to him led them all to earth thanks to his probing? ;-) #scriptchat
7:50 pm             booksbelow:             @chained I do think Will Smith is a really good actor, he can not only handle action, but comedy, romance, and drama. #scriptchat
7:50 pm             DreamsGrafter:             @booksbelow Agree and his relationships with his sons felt real too. #scriptchat
7:51 pm             DreamsGrafter:             RT @KarenSperling: "SET-PIECE-A scene or sequence with escalated stakes + production values." http://tinyurl.com/2fnrjx6 #scriptchat
7:51 pm             DreamsGrafter:             @KarenSperling Thanks so much Karen and welcome to #scriptchat! :) #scriptchat
7:52 pm             dennajones:             #WillSmith has hypnotic charisma. Not sure it matters if he can act. #scriptchat
7:52 pm             twatterer:             @DreamsGrafter yet very stereotypical characters/relationships throughout #scriptchat
7:52 pm             DreamsGrafter:             @lizziside I know, I'm putting the propaganda message to the side 'cause fundamentally, it's still a well written script. #scriptchat
7:53 pm             DreamsGrafter:             Btw, if anyone has any recommendations re scripts to discuss on #scriptchat, please DM myself and I'll pass onto the team. #scriptchat
7:54 pm             filmutopia:             #scriptchat Guys, looks like you had a great discussion on the blog, whilst I was away eating food and doing family... http://post.ly/lm0W
7:54 pm             lupiilu:             @dennajones has magnetic charisma and he can act and was recently v happy to learn he is NOT a scientologist!. #scriptchat
7:54 pm             Jonathan_Peace:             Have to remember this is nothing but a B-movie with an A budget. Stereotypical characters, cheesy dialogue. Big explosions. #scriptchat
7:55 pm             chained:             RT @filmutopia: #scriptchat It's just that action movies are largely about framing the structure around eight large set pieces. I figure on 2 per act.
7:55 pm             DreamsGrafter:             Can't promise tht all will be chosen but if something's clearly popular or if we're not inundated w/ choices, we can discuss it. #scriptchat
7:55 pm             DreamsGrafter:             RT @filmutopia: #scriptchat Guys, looks like you had a great discussion on the blog, whilst I was away eating food and doing family... http://post.ly/lm0W
7:55 pm             lupiilu:             Agreed, RT @Jonathan_Peace: Have to remember this is nothing but a B-movie with an A budget. Stereotypical characters, #scriptchat
7:55 pm             filmutopia:             @BFrank_ #scriptchat the 4th act in 4 Act structure is the same as the 3rd Act in 3 Act. 2 and 3 in 4 Act are lumped together as Act 2 in 3
7:55 pm             AllInky:             I guess there are stereotypes is because most of the audience isn't a Juno, or a House. Everyman winning, and all that. #scriptchat
7:55 pm             lizziside:             Built upon simple artifices in my view with predictable characters/actions RT @DreamsGrafter: its still a well written script. #scriptchat
7:56 pm             DreamsGrafter:             @KarenSperling @filmutopia - I hadn't in the context of script talk either ... really love our #scriptchat sessions. :)
7:56 pm             filmutopia:             #scriptchat Oops... sorry about that stray pimping of the blog. I meant to post that when we were finished! My Bad! :-(
7:56 pm             twatterer:             @Jonathan_Peace and one that rewards men for being mad, bad, violent & aggressive & relegates women to subservient carer roles. #scriptchat
7:57 pm             thewritertype:             @DreamsGrafter Some people on #scriptchat tonight may be aliens. Keep them talking, I'll fix em with my magic computer

7:57 pm             lizziside:             I was really interested about the set-piece discussion #scriptchat
7:57 pm             lupiilu:             @dennajones nah, I read somewhere he was joining, but recently read he'd looked into it, but not joined, man has commen sense! #scriptchat
7:58 pm             lupiilu:             @thewritertype will do boss! #scriptchat
7:58 pm             Jonathan_Peace:             @twatterer Like most films of the 90's. 80's. 70's and so on... #scriptchat
7:58 pm             filmutopia:             #scriptchat Writers always run down action movies as simplistic... they are an absolute bastard to write.
7:59 pm             AllInky:             What distinguishes a set-piece from an action-sequence? #scriptchat
7:59 pm             DreamsGrafter:             @twatterer @lizziside I'm not a fan of the film at all. I meant I'm impressed by the way it's literally written - action seqs. #scriptchat
7:59 pm             KarenSperling:             Yes, will keep it in mind as I rewrite my resurrected thriller :-D @DreamsGrafter @filmutopia #scriptchat
7:59 pm             booksbelow:             Yes, thanks @filmutopia for information about sub-slugs and set pieces. #scriptchat

8:00 pm             filmutopia:             #scriptchat Damn, I am just too dyslexic at the moment. I need to go and eat. Have I been forming sentences? I honestly can't tell.
8:00 pm             Jonathan_Peace:             @DreamsGrafter Thanks for a great chat tonight XX #scriptchat
8:02 pm             booksbelow:             @dennajones Will Smith is good friends with Tom Cruise & defended his choices, but they weren't his thank goodness. #scientology #scriptchat

8:03 pm             DreamsGrafter:             RT @AllInky: I guess there are stereotypes because most of the audience isn't a Juno, or a House. Everyman winning, & all that. #scriptchat
8:04 pm             ttimechitchat:             Ditto! rt @Jonathan_Peace: @DreamsGrafter Thanks for a great chat tonight XX #scriptchat

8:05 pm             dennajones:             I'm back #scriptchat. was over at writechat checking out the "writing pagan witch" - maybe he'd be good in this discussion?
8:05 pm             AllInky:             Noting funnier film lines. "Nobody's perfect" to "I'm not Jewish," instead of script's "It's okay." Like that. #scriptchat
8:05 pm             DreamsGrafter:             Wow, that went quickly! ... I love our Script Nights on #scriptchat. Discussions get fired up 'cause we have a focus for all our thoughts.

12:01 am             TheWriteScript:             Hi everyone! #scriptchat
12:01 am             jeannevb:             I watched it while I read it. Amazed how many differences there were, including scenes out of order & new dialogue #scriptchat
12:01 am             thinkStory:             @jeannevb #scriptchat loved it, so cool to both read the script and watch the film. great idea.
12:02 am             jeannevb:             tweetchat seems to be slow. I'm going to work off tweetdeck & see if that's better #scriptchat
12:03 am             jeannevb:             def a time saver ;) RT @thinkStory: @jeannevb #scriptchat loved it, so cool to both read the script and watch the film. great idea.
12:03 am             TheWriteScript:             I've been tweeting my frustrations with reading this script...errors galore! Can't believe it's for real. #scriptchat
12:03 am             KageyNYC:             @jeannevb slow for me too. #scriptchat
12:03 am             booksbelow:             Fireworks won't be until 9 at least! RT @jeannevb: @zacsanford im here.... suspect it will be a light crowd :( #scriptchat
12:04 am             jeannevb:             the hashtag column in tweetdeck AND the tweetchat room are updating like SNAILS! #scriptchat #grrrr
12:04 am             thinkStory:             @jeannevb #scriptchat it's twitter itself. it's not updating the hashtag streams fast enough.
12:05 am             jeannevb:             @GinySassenach yep Will & Jeff's chars weren't even snarky at all in script but great chemistry & dialogue on screen. #scriptchat
12:05 am             GCGeek:             @jeannevb Twitter #scriptchat search is slow too :-(
12:05 am             jeannevb:             For me, it was timely to read along w watch, as we're in rewrites. Just a small dialogue change makes ALL diff'c #scriptchat
12:05 am             Donna_Carrick:             #scriptchat @thinkStory @jeannevb Hi! Happy Independence Day!
12:05 am             TheWriteScript:             My question is, when we're reading scripts from the Web, how do we know they are the actual scripts written by the writers? #scriptchat
12:06 am             chained:             #scriptchat is it true #independeceday was #written in just 1 weekend ? I hated the #cast I'm not a #willsmith #fan but #film was ok
12:06 am             diannesalerni:             I loved the screenplay, Jeanne! It was just as exciting to read as to watch. #scriptchat
12:07 am             GinySassenach:             @jeannevb That's a great idea next time I'm going to watch and read and same time. Duh! #scriptchat
12:07 am             diannesalerni:             @thinkStory You're right. Those lines evolved from the actors! #scriptchat
12:07 am             jeannevb:             @TheWriteScript well, it's a draft. We purposely pick draft versions so ppl can see how much changes ;) U can shoot us now ha #scriptchat
12:08 am             GinySassenach:             @TheWriteScript I noticed a lot of spelling errors.... #scriptchat
12:08 am             jeannevb:             Hashtag load is slow.... so I'm drinking more ;) #lalalalala @thinkStory @GCGeek #scriptchat
12:08 am             booksbelow:             @jeannevb Seesmic is the same, has to be Twitter itself! This is how it was last week, too. #scriptchat
12:08 am             thinkStory:             #scriptchat "we're gonna have to work on our communication."
12:09 am             GinySassenach:             @jeannevb Oh then it's not my computer. I have to keep logging out and logging in to get the stream #scriptchat
12:09 am             jeannevb:             @TheWriteScript agree. The film was MUCH better than the script! #scriptchat
12:09 am             diannesalerni:             Wow, updates on Tweetchat are at least 4 minutes behind. I think communication from moon is faster than that. #scriptchat
12:10 am             thinkStory:             @jeannevb well, hard to be nuanced when there's so much plot flying around. #scriptchat
12:10 am             GCGeek:             Yes, I noticed typos and line confusion between characters but still was able to follow. #scriptchat
12:10 am             jeannevb:             ATTN TWITTER... we'll send aliens to kick ur ass! RT @thinkStory: #scriptchat "we're gonna have to work on our communication."
12:10 am             jeannevb:             @GinySassenach nope, not you.... a twitter issue #scriptchat
12:10 am             TheWriteScript:             More than spelling errors...the wrong word in the wrong place...ex: NASA instead of NSA...weird things. #scriptchat
12:10 am             dwacon:             Funny how a script changes during production -- yet readers often nitpick scripts for things that will prolly change anyway :- #scriptchat
12:11 am             jeannevb:             are we drinking? bc I'm drinking.... and I hate drinking alone #scriptchat
12:11 am             thinkStory:             #scriptchat I have always just loved that film. love the two asides, "Which part?" and "What code?" both ad-libbed, I think.
12:11 am             GinySassenach:             @TheWriteScript Yes #scriptchat
12:11 am             dwacon:             @jeannevb Homemade watermelon lemonade. No added sugar or water or booze... just lemons, orange, lime and melon... #scriptchat
12:11 am             GCGeek:             I found myself questioning creative license w/technical issues. Like knowing where/how to upload virus on 15-mi-wide alien ship. #scriptchat
12:12 am             KageyNYC:             Cheers! *clink* RT @jeannevb: are we drinking? bc I'm drinking.... and I hate drinking alone #scriptchat
12:12 am             jeannevb:             did u see we have a new friend @RyanDCanty? Everyone give him a follow. I'm luring him into #scriptchat
12:12 am             EmilyHjulstrom:             i has a soda does that count :P RT @jeannevb: are we drinking? bc Im drinking.... and I hate drinking alone #scriptchat
12:12 am             thinkStory:             and always good to see @brentspiner in a film, post ST:TNG. #scriptchat
12:12 am             diannesalerni:             I was impressed w concise action descriptions which nevertheless were exciting to read & effectively conveyed image to reader. #scriptchat
12:13 am             jeannevb:             Will Smith def adds a ton to the character and brings him to life. "Welcome to Earth" line not even in script #scriptchat
12:13 am             chained:             #scriptchat best #character was #randyquaid as #drunk pilot & guys who take piss out if him in #diner they did #sexual things to him !
12:13 am             booksbelow:             In euro chat @filmutopia said quite a few interesting things about set pieces and sub-slug lines, it was quite interesting. #scriptchat
12:13 am             jeannevb:             @KageyNYC :) New I could count on my wife #scriptchat
12:13 am             Timsn:             Drinking wine - eating kahlua & vodka cake at neighbors #scriptchat
12:13 am             GinySassenach:             @GCGeek I pondered that....but it is a movie! #scriptchat
12:13 am             TTimTexas:             That's where the drinking comes in handy #GCGeek #scriptchat
12:13 am             TenaciousTanaka:             Just started a rewrite... again... after option ran out... Can't stay but I just wanted to stop by and say Happy 4th of July! #scriptchat
12:13 am             dwacon:             @thinkStory When I saw it in the theater, the audience CHEERED when @brentspiner first appeared. #scriptchat
12:14 am             jeannevb:             @EmilyHjulstrom soda is perfect... ur daddy is raising you right... or you're a good liar ;) haha #scriptchat
12:14 am             jeannevb:             @TenaciousTanaka *waves* #scriptchat
12:14 am             GinySassenach:             @jeannevb I remember the part about kicking the alien and saying you stink, I don't think that was in script. Great #scriptchat
12:14 am             diannesalerni:             @Timsn Have eaten kahlua cake, but not kahlua and vodka. May need recipe. #scriptchat
12:14 am             jeannevb:             ok, tweetchat seems to be working better than tweetdeck, so hope on back here peeps #scriptchat
12:15 am             GCGeek:             @Timsn Good point! I need to think 1994. @GinySassenach I have to keep in mind "fantasy" with my IT training put aside. #scriptchat
12:15 am             thinkStory:             @dwacon #scriptchat haha, yeah, Data, yet not Data.
12:15 am             booksbelow:             I agree, his inner demons became real to confront! RT @chained: #scriptchat best #character was #randyquaid as #drunk pilot #scriptchat
12:15 am             jeannevb:             also in script, Marty was married... he called his wife, not his mother. Seems they wanted to hit every stereotype out there #scriptchat
12:15 am             GCGeek:             @TTimTexas Drinking always comes in handy, unless you're about to fly. #scriptchat
12:15 am             thinkStory:             @GinySassenach nor was "I coulda been at a barbecue!" in the script. #scriptchat
12:15 am             jeannevb:             @dwacon yum ;) #scriptchat
12:16 am             GinySassenach:             @GCGeek Hubby is an electrical engineer. He's always going on about..."that can't happen" I always say, "It's in the script "LOL #scriptchat
12:16 am             GinySassenach:             @thinkStory Yes I loved that line. Will Smith is a great actor. #scriptchat
12:17 am             jeannevb:             yep RT @thinkStory: @jeannevb #scriptchat meaning by turning him into a gay guy? casting brilliance there. #scriptchat
12:17 am             diannesalerni:             No sick kid for Randy Quaid in film. When rdg script, I thought that was a subplot that could be cut. #scriptchat
12:17 am             jeannevb:             In script, chars felt undeveloped but just a few bits of dialogue in film changed it all #scriptchat
12:17 am             GCGeek:             @GinySassenach LOL. I get the "honey, it's just a story." all the time :-) #scriptchat
12:17 am             indpnt1:             @jeannevb #scriptchat Some of the best lines R never written by writers. An actor in the moment becomes the character & leaps off the paper.
12:17 am             iceberg061:             You know I'm with you! RT @jeannevb: are we drinking? bc I'm drinking.... and I hate drinking alone #scriptchat
12:18 am             jeannevb:             @diannesalerni sick kid was in the netflix version. Husband said, "I dont remember seeing that on screen" #scriptchat
12:18 am             TheWriteScript:             As a writer, did we learn anything? Proofreading if you're not an insider? LOL #scriptchat
12:18 am             jeannevb:             @indpnt1 yep, totally great when that happens. Actors know the char better than some writers #scriptchat
12:18 am             thinkStory:             @diannesalerni #scriptchat exactly on the sick kid, I was so glad that didn't stay, bt it explns the scene where the kid has them pull over.
12:18 am             EmilyHjulstrom:             @jeanne i think the president was WEAK adding in him being a fighter in the end was lame in my opinion #scriptchat
12:19 am             diannesalerni:             @jeannevb It wasn't in the TV version I saw today, tho it might have been cut for commercial time. I don't remember it though. #scriptchat
12:19 am             diannesalerni:             RT @jeannevb Some of the best lines R never written by writers. Actor in the moment becomes the character & leaps off the paper #scriptchat
12:19 am             booksbelow:             Agree RT @EmilyHjulstrom: @jeanne i think the president was WEAK adding in him being a fighter in the end was lame in my opinion #scriptchat
12:19 am             jeannevb:             @diannesalerni good call to cut bc to me, it was meaningless #scriptchat
12:19 am             GinySassenach:             @jeannevb I had a time reading the script. Having seen the movie it fell in place if I had not it would have been confusing 2 me #scriptchat
12:19 am             GCGeek:             @thinkStory You're so right on the dating of a film - I wondered if sometimes too much "modern" tech for its time was used #scriptchat
12:19 am             thinkStory:             @TheWriteScript #scriptchat I think I learned not to worship my own exact words but to create compelling chars and strong story.
12:20 am             jeannevb:             @diannesalerni but it was in the netflix version we watched last night #scriptchat
12:20 am             diannesalerni:             @jeannevb Interesting! DVD version picked it up off the cutting room floor? #scriptchat
12:20 am             AllInky:             I think the Prez's storyline was always about him being better out of office, in a plane, than in. #scriptchat
12:21 am             TheWriteScript:             @thinkStory Yes, definitely. #scriptchat
12:21 am             thinkStory:             @diannesalerni sometimes DVD will have the director's cut or something, along with the theatrical release. #scriptchat
12:21 am             GCGeek:             Also, found more convenience than a 7-11 in the second half. 1 dog fight is alien-ship training. Crash so close to Area 51... #scriptchat
12:21 am             GinySassenach:             The daughter and boyfriend seem to be more important in script then in film #scriptchat
12:22 am             jeannevb:             just a reminder, next month is GROUNDHOG DAY... then the following week, @SKCOMEDY will be our guest ;) #scriptchat
12:22 am             TheWriteScript:             @jeannevb I wish I knew what we were reading: original draft, a later re-write, what? #scriptchat
12:22 am             KageyNYC:             Indeed! RT @jeannevb: just a reminder, next month is GROUNDHOG DAY... then the following week, @SKCOMEDY will be our guest ;) #scriptchat
12:23 am             GinySassenach:             @jeannevb Groundhog Day @AndieMacdowell lives in Asheville. #scriptchat
12:23 am             thinkStory:             #scriptchat oh, yeah, in script, Randy Quaid doesn't sacrifice himself willingly. I thought the film made him much more noble.
12:23 am             GCGeek:             Woot Woot! RT @jeannevb: just a reminder, next month is GROUNDHOG DAY... then the following week, @SKCOMEDY will be our guest ;) #scriptchat
12:23 am             jeannevb:             sometimes the link says RT @TheWriteScript: @jeannevb I wish I knew what we were reading: original draft, later re-write, what? #scriptchat
12:24 am             GinySassenach:             GroundHog Day one of Bill M. best performances. #scriptchat
12:24 am             thinkStory:             #scriptchat my favorite thing in movies is heroic moments, this one had enough to be uplifting.
12:24 am             EmilyHjulstrom:             @jeannevb ground hog day will be great i really wanna type a very grammatically wrong post and rewrite it continually slowly.. #scriptchat
12:24 am             diannesalerni:             @jeannevb What's the date for the Groundhog Day chat? First Sunday of month? #scriptchat
12:24 am             jeannevb:             How stupid was it in script that Randy Quaid flew his biplane hahaha #scriptchat
12:24 am             frombrain2tweet:             Mornin' Tweeps. How goes #ScriptChat?
12:24 am             EmilyHjulstrom:             @jeannevb changing each grammatical error so at the end its perfect (me and my lame ideas :)) #scriptchat
12:24 am             GinySassenach:             @thinkStory Also in script Randy was chosen at first. right? in movie they chose him right off #scriptchat
12:24 am             jeannevb:             @EmilyHjulstrom you are so your father's daughter ;) #scriptchat
12:25 am             jeannevb:             @frombrain2tweet goes well... talking INDEPENDENCE DAY #scriptchat
12:25 am             writeononline:             @GCGeek @jeannevb Fabulous. THX RT @jeannevb on it! RT Wld love to have u & #scriptchat chime in on my writers survey http://bit.ly/cyzexW
12:25 am             AllInky:             Because there was so MUCH story in this one, it's hard to pick it apart structurally. #scriptchat
12:25 am             TheWriteScript:             LOL. You guys are talking about the actors and I have NO idea who played what part. No context. Funny. #scriptchat
12:26 am             GinySassenach:             @jeannevb Agreed that's what i was talking about....movie version better not belivable but better. #scriptchat
12:26 am             jeannevb:             AUGUST 1ST RT @diannesalerni: @jeannevb What's the date for the Groundhog Day chat? First Sunday of month? #scriptchat
12:26 am             diannesalerni:             @jeannevb Was wondering about that when I read it, thinking "a bi-plane in space??" #scriptchat
12:26 am             GinySassenach:             @thinkstory I mean was not chosen at first forced to fly stupid plane #scriptchat
12:26 am             jeannevb:             Download GROUNDHOG DAY here http://bit.ly/dyPlvs #scriptchat
12:27 am             GinySassenach:             Printed out Law Abiding Citizen, but it's not the final draft and it is so off from movie. #scriptchat
12:27 am             TheWriteScript:             @jeannevb TY! #scriptchat
12:27 am             AllInky:             But, those city ships weren't in space... no flames in space. :) #scriptchat
12:27 am             jeannevb:             did you like the subplots? Were you expecting that many in an action film? #scriptchat
12:28 am             thinkStory:             #scriptchat at least we found out in the script that crop duster's wife had died, and not just ditched him.
12:28 am             booksbelow:             @TheWriteScript And who thought he had been kidnapped by aliens so this was payback time. #scriptchat
12:28 am             Donna_Carrick:             RT @thinkStory: #scriptchat my favorite thing in movies is heroic moments, this one had enough to be uplifting.
12:28 am             GCGeek:             I was also thinking how expensive this film would be to make as I was reading. #scriptchat
12:28 am             jeannevb:             I did find a lot of the dialogue really sappy #justsayin #scriptchat
12:28 am             AllInky:             I did like all the subplots. Fortunately, very linear, no flashbacks and all that, so, much easier to keep track of them. #scriptchat
12:29 am             DoubleNW:             Hey #scriptchat, Tweeps :) I didn't do the homework so just came through 2 say Happy 4th!
12:29 am             chained:             #scriptchat the worst thing about #Hollywood is they always put major events as happening in #USA it's unrealistic & unoriginal
12:29 am             booksbelow:             In eurochat there was a strong anti-american thread about this movie, in fact someone thought it was reponsible for Bush & Iraq #scriptchat
12:29 am             jeannevb:             @AllInky it was interesting how the order of scenes changed so much from script to screen #scriptchat
12:29 am             diannesalerni:             @jeannevb In disaster films, there R usually many subplots for the characters we follow. This was like disaster flick. #scriptchat
12:29 am             jeannevb:             @DoubleNW we still love you :) #hookyday #scriptchat
12:30 am             GCGeek:             @jeannevb I liked some of the subplots but didn't need multiple romantic lines. #JustSayin #scriptchat
12:30 am             AllInky:             The scene shifts make good sense though. People first, action second. It also put pivotal scenes on key pages. #scriptchat
12:30 am             jeannevb:             @booksbelow I'm going to have to read the EURO transcript! haha #scriptchat
12:30 am             EmilyHjulstrom:             @allinky i totally agree compared to some other subplot movies this was very easy to keep track of #scriptchat
12:30 am             TheWriteScript:             @chained We're an ethnocentric nation-state. It makes us feel good to be the center-of-all-things. #scriptchat
12:31 am             jeannevb:             @GCGeek the one that made me want to barf was when Will Smith goes back to the base & conveniently finds her. #ewww #scriptchat
12:31 am             jeannevb:             @AllInky i did like the changes of sequence, just interesting how much of it shifted #scriptchat
12:31 am             KageyNYC:             I have to get back to family BBQ but have a very happy Fourth, #scriptchat peeps! /@jeannevb
12:31 am             GinySassenach:             @jeannevb Also in movie she didn't have confrontation with bad men over truck. In script she did. I liked the confrontation! #scriptchat
12:31 am             thinkStory:             @jeannevb AND the first lady, thereby making himself even more of an uber-hero, having just delivered the alien. #scriptchat
12:32 am             twatterer:             @booksbelow that's a bit of a strange thing to say/invent. I was present at the Euro chat and that wasn't the case at all. #scriptchat
12:32 am             artofthespa:             Ditto RT @chained worst thing about #Hollywood they always put major events as happening in #USA its unrealistic & unoriginal #scriptchat
12:32 am             GCGeek:             @jeannevb: in my notes today: How the hell did he find her? #scriptchat
12:32 am             booksbelow:             Even in a fantasy world like this where we have to suspend disbelief, they would never let President join in attack :-) #scriptchat
12:32 am             EmilyHjulstrom:             agreed RT @jeannevb the one that made me want to barf was when WillSmith goes back to the base & conveniently finds her #ewww #scriptchat
12:32 am             AllInky:             Being a Canuck, I listen in on both chats. :) The interesting thing in the script for me was the we SEE and HEAR, outdated now. #scriptchat
12:32 am             TheWriteScript:             @KageyNYC See ya. Have fun! #scriptchat
12:32 am             thinkStory:             @twatterer well, now we'll all have to read that transcript. inquiring minds want to know. #scriptchat
12:33 am             diannesalerni:             @GCGeek He told her to come to the base. It was as coincidental as, say, Jasmine finding ther 1st lady. #scriptchat
12:33 am             dwacon:             @booksbelow They might have allowed GWB to attack... #scriptchat
12:33 am             DoubleNW:             @jeannevb Back @cha, babe :) #scriptchat
12:33 am             jeannevb:             I may just have to be a stripper in my next life #scriptchat
12:33 am             GCGeek:             @diannesalerni There were a LOT of coincidences in this one :-D #scriptchat
12:34 am             twatterer:             @thinkStory haha :) it's my cunning ploy to get you all to read the Euro chat! :) #scriptchat
12:34 am             booksbelow:             @twatterer I said there was a strong thread (a few people) not every1, sorry if misunderstood-There were quite a tweets about it #scriptchat
12:34 am             thinkStory:             @GCGeek well, they had established that she was supposed to meet him at the base. does that count? #scriptchat
12:34 am             GinySassenach:             @jeannevb Next life ????? LOL #scriptchat
12:34 am             jeannevb:             @thinkStory yeah, the 1st lady too #scriptchat
12:34 am             ozzywood:             Quick hello to all of you! I'm being interviewed by @thatwritingchic in a few minutes. #scriptchat
12:34 am             jeannevb:             mwhahahaha RT @twatterer: @thinkStory haha :) its my cunning ploy to get you all to read the Euro chat! :) #scriptchat
12:35 am             jeannevb:             *waves* RT @ozzywood: Quick hello to all of you! Im being interviewed by @thatwritingchic in a few minutes. #scriptchat
12:35 am             jeannevb:             @ozzywood if u have any thoughts on INDEPENDENCE DAY script... come back ;) #scriptchat
12:35 am             diannesalerni:             Wondered how 1st lady could be so close to death they couldn't save her (weren't even trying) but conscious for last goodbye #scriptchat
12:35 am             jeannevb:             I had my breasts lifted... they have scars haha #noonewantsmarkedstripper RT @GinySassenach: @jeannevb Next life ????? LOL #scriptchat
12:36 am             diannesalerni:             @dwacon I *think* that's a different Bill. #scriptchat
12:36 am             ozzywood:             I'm European (Yep, not Aussie ;) and ID4 is still one of the most watched movies on TV over there. People can't help watching. #scriptchat
12:36 am             thinkStory:             @GinySassenach yeah, they kept the girls all girls in the movie. too bad. #scriptchat
12:36 am             twatterer:             @booksbelow all cool, dude. I just felt that "strong anti-American thread" was a whopper of an exaggeration. :) #scriptchat
12:36 am             TheWriteScript:             @GinySassenach I liked the confrontation too. Sad to hear it's not in the film. Grr. #scriptchat
12:36 am             diannesalerni:             @dwacon But I get them confused a lot too. #scriptchat
12:36 am             AllInky:             There was, of course, a lot of action in this script. Mostly, one-sentence blocks, creating mucho whiter space. #scriptchat
12:37 am             artofthespa:             At least you don't have a stripper name like some of us ; ) RT @jeannevb: I may just have to be a stripper in my next life #scriptchat
12:37 am             jeannevb:             @TheWriteScript @GinySassenach also in a situation like that, ppl are fierce & WOULD fight for a truck! #scriptchat
12:38 am             ozzywood:             It's one of the best examples of HC. The execution was terribly formulaic but that didn't matter: it worked. #scriptchat
12:38 am             jeannevb:             @artofthespa hey! Did you go to #GAPF? I missed u! #scriptchat
12:38 am             diannesalerni:             I didn't miss the confrontation. It's hard to cut a scene w/a great line in it (her line was terrific) but it just ate up time #scriptchat
12:39 am             thinkStory:             @dwacon yo, Bill Pullman? :) #scriptchat
12:39 am             artofthespa:             YUP missed you, it was so crowded I was a little intimidated RT @jeannevb: @artofthespa hey! Did you go to #GAPF? I missed u! #scriptchat
12:39 am             jeannevb:             In film, some of dialogue was switched. Amazing diff'c it makes when a diff'c char says same thing. #scriptchat
12:40 am             booksbelow:             @twatterer I just thought it interesting, check transcript, I meant strong in the sense of statements made, no exaggeration :-) #scriptchat
12:40 am             AllInky:             IMHO, "formula" is to script as sonnet is to poetry. Not everyone enjoys free verse poems. Not every sonnet is the same. #scriptchat
12:40 am             dwacon:             I stand corrected. Time for another libation... #scriptchat
12:40 am             thinkStory:             @jeannevb so busy getting script reqs! :) #scriptchat
12:41 am             jeannevb:             I feel like Randy Quaid's char was created JUST to have him be the sacrifice at end. HIs char didnt do much for me #scriptchat
12:41 am             GinySassenach:             @jeannevb When reading dial. it's so diff when you see Actor saying it! The actor can make it or break it. #scriptchat
12:41 am             ozzywood:             ID4 RT @Donna_Carrick: RT @thinkStory: #scriptchat my favorite thing in movies is heroic moments, this one had enough to be uplifting.
12:41 am             booksbelow:             Did anyone think there were too many story lines? #scriptchat
12:41 am             thinkStory:             Amen. @AllInky Formula is to script as sonnet is to poetry. Not everyone enjoys free verse poems. Not every sonnet is the same. #scriptchat
12:41 am             jeannevb:             :) And YOU met my WSJ guy! RT @thinkStory: @jeannevb so busy getting script reqs! :) #scriptchat
12:41 am             EmilyHjulstrom:             RT @jeannevb: I feel like Randy Quaids char was created JUST to have him be the sacrifice at end. HIs char didnt do much for me #scriptchat
12:42 am             GinySassenach:             @booksbelow When reading yes, but in movie no. they all tie in together. #scriptchat
12:43 am             booksbelow:             @jeannevb What? I thought his character was the main protagonist-got to externalize his inner demons & confront them in reality! #scriptchat
12:43 am             GinySassenach:             I liked Randy Quaids char he was the town joke but he became town hero in the end. Take that all those that laughted at him! #scriptchat
12:43 am             EmilyHjulstrom:             no it could have been very confusing in the script it was harder but in the movie it was much easier to follow in the script #scriptchat
12:43 am             jeannevb:             @booksbelow heehee :) Oh, I have some demons that need addressing... I'll get Randy right on em #scriptchat
12:43 am             TheWriteScript:             @AllInky But isn't the bulk of the money earned from US sales? #scriptchat
12:43 am             ozzywood:             The audience controls this, not 'America'. RT @AllInky: America exports a lot of film, imports very little. #scriptchat
12:44 am             susynandfolsom:             sorry late to party - had errands and such #scriptchat
12:44 am             booksbelow:             @jeannevb (I do really like Randy Quaid) #scriptchat
12:44 am             jeannevb:             @GinySassenach he did add humor, that's for sure. Guess it was more the whole family behind him that seemed forced #scriptchat
12:44 am             thinkStory:             @ozzywood thank you to the man down under. #scriptchat
12:45 am             ozzywood:             Increasingly not. Worldw. grows, dom. shrinks. RT @TheWriteScript: @AllInky But isnt the bulk of the money earned from US sales? #scriptchat
12:45 am             jeannevb:             that's what she said ;) RT @thinkStory: @ozzywood thank you to the man down under. #scriptchat
12:45 am             twatterer:             @booksbelow a few comments theorising about a film's political agenda hardly warrants an 'anti-American' tag. #scriptchat
12:45 am             ozzywood:             @thinkStory :) My pleasure! #scriptchat
12:46 am             GinySassenach:             @jeannevb Yes, could have left his family situation out. sick boy. #scriptchat
12:46 am             PatrickS:             So many homages to classic UFO & alien invasion tropes in ID4. Great job of honoring the genre. #scriptchat
12:46 am             jeannevb:             @thinkStory *giggle* #scriptchat
12:46 am             AllInky:             I wasn't eating America, folks. Try watching Olympics on Canadian feed, you won't have as much fun. That's all. #scriptchat
12:46 am             ozzywood:             Could it be that worldwide audiences see 'America' as a metaphor for 'The World'? #scriptchat
12:46 am             ozzywood:             RT @PatrickS: So many homages to classic UFO & alien invasion tropes in ID4. Great job of honoring the genre. #scriptchat
12:47 am             jeannevb:             @EmilyHjulstrom I will be a very immature 47 this month :) #scriptchat
12:47 am             TheWriteScript:             @ozzywood Until the $ shifts to say 25% US and 75% non-US, we should expect a US-centric film. Shouldn't we? #scriptchat
12:47 am             thinkStory:             @EmilyHjulstrom old enough to know better, young enough to do it anyway. #scriptchat
12:47 am             GinySassenach:             @ozzywood Sad but true America - world #scriptchat
12:47 am             ozzywood:             Absolutely RT @TheWriteScript Until the $ shifts to say 25% US and 75% non-US, we should expect a US-centric film. Shouldnt we? #scriptchat
12:47 am             EmilyHjulstrom:             thats what makes @jeannevb awesome :) RT @thinkStory: @EmilyHjulstrom old enough to know better, young enough to do it anyway. #scriptchat
12:48 am             booksbelow:             @twatterer Talk to you about it later, people can check transcript to see what they think. #scriptchat
12:48 am             jeannevb:             HA RT @EmilyHjulstrom: thats what makes @jeannevb awesome:) RT @thinkStory old enough 2 know better, young enough 2 do it anyway #scriptchat
12:48 am             ozzywood:             Thank you @thatwritingchic for letting me stay at #scriptchat
12:50 am             TheWriteScript:             @jeannevb Happy Birthday! When's the day? #scriptchat
12:50 am             GinySassenach:             Stream stopped? #scriptchat
12:50 am             jeannevb:             July 24th ;) RT @TheWriteScript: @jeannevb Happy Birthday! Whens the day? #scriptchat
12:51 am             jeannevb:             @ozzywood *giggle* :) #scriptchat
12:51 am             AllInky:             I've been noodling "protagonist" in this one. Was it the Three Faces of Hero sort of thing? Steve/Russell/Prez? #scriptchat
12:51 am             dwacon:             Like when Bruce Lee's treatment for ?Kung Fu? was cast with David Carradine in the lead. FAIL #scriptchat
12:51 am             GCGeek:             @jeannevb OMG. Same for me in September. And yes those nearly two months make all the difference, wise one. #scriptchat
12:51 am             EmilyHjulstrom:             wait wait... oh no it was a cloud :( RT @jeannevb: seems Twitter is slowing down again. Someone check the skies for alien ships! #scriptchat

12:52 am             Slickriptide:             Agree he was created to die, but he was a phyrric char. The wise fool who turned out to be right, & was rewarded with immortality #scriptchat
12:52 am             booksbelow:             @jeannevb You're just a kid, I can barely remember when I was only 47! #scriptchat

12:59 am             GinySassenach:             @jeannevb I think we should do a Stephen King - 1408 or Secret Window for Halloween. #scriptchat
1:00 am             AllInky:             It's sometimes hard to remember that ID was pre-9/11. A lot has changed in technology in that time. It wasn't bad at the time. #scriptchat
1:00 am             jeannevb:             excellent... or MISERY RT @GinySassenach: @jeannevb I think we should do a Stephen King - 1408 or Secret Window for Halloween. #scriptchat
